2009 Annual Special

Our 2009 Annual Special saw 130 of us setting of early on a Sunday morning on course to The Wellington Country Park, what a fantastic place and perfect for an enroute stop over. The Glorious sunshine made for a wonderful afternoon, enjoying play areas, countryside walks and general relaxation. We then travelled onto our overnight hotel directly on Epsom Racecourse and was amazing view we had and for those of us early enough we even saw some horses exercising.

The 2nd day saw us travelling onto Chessington and Thorpe Park depending on what your preference was, again the wonderful weather set us up for a lovely day. On the following day before our journey home we again had a choice, we could have a look around the World Famous Windsor Castle or enjoy lunch on a Thames Cruise. I think the pictures speak for themselves. All in all a lovely break was has by all and here’s looking forward to the next one.

2009 Taunton Runs

Once again our Entry into the 2009 Taunton Fun Run and Half Marathon was a huge success and we managed to raise just over £6000! Have we inspired some of you to take part in the half for the very first time next year? Watch this space.

Escape Support Group was officially announced winner in the “Emotional Health and Wellbeing” category for outstanding contribution to child health at the National Health for Kids Awards 2007.

Earlier this year ESCAPE entered the competition highlighting the positive effects that taking part in the Taunton Half Marathon and Fun Run has had on the emotional health and wellbeing of all the children who took part. Although ESCAPE submitted the application, the entry was inspired by the enthusiasm and sheer enjoyment of those children who took part in the event. So this is your award too – thank you.

Escape was one of over 700 entries which went through a rigorous judging process including a presentation to a panel of expert judges. So it was an amazing accolade to be chosen as one of the winners and to be the only Somerset organization to reach the final. Members of the committee attended a special awards presentation lunch in London earlier in October where they were presented with a trophy and a cheque for £1,000 by Olympic Champion Sally Gunnell, OBE.

Christine Ker, Chairperson said "This award is the result of our inspirational children, who despite their disabilities and problems embrace every challenge we throw at them with enthusiasm and commitment. They have done us proud and to receive national recognition of this magnitude is praise indeed"

If anyone would like to find out more about the work of ESCAPE, or would like to become involved in any way (or even perhaps run for us in next year’s Taunton Half Marathon or Fun Run!) please contact ESCAPE on 01823 331531
